There are six of us in the Blow family. Five of which I make a cake for, each year, on their birthday. I don’t think I’ve missed one yet. You might me wondering why don’t I make cake for the sixth one. The sixth one is me! I’m not in a habit of making my cake for my birthday, however… this one bowl chocolate cake is pretty simple that I can probably get the kids to whip it up for me this year (with the help of Mr. Blow).I love chocolate and all things chocolate!
If someone tells you they don’t like chocolate… stop being friends with them. You don’t need that kind of negativity in your life.
Over the years I’ve made a large variety of cakes. Some cakes have taken up to two days to make. I try not to maketwo cakes that are the same, becauseI enjoy making each cake special by trying a new recipe and designing it myself.
Sometimes though… making a cake from scratch is way too difficult withmy schedule. That’s how it was this year for Emma’s birthday. We had a food centered birthday withHomemade Mac and Cheese with Almond Milk, Delicious Vanilla Cake Pops and of course this one bowl chocolate cake. I didn’t stop with just a butter frosting through (recipe coming soon). This cake became the recently popular Kit Kat cake, sugar chaos! Oh lord yes… it happened. I had a 12-year-old girl telling me she MUST have one of these cakes or she will die… sigh. I was weak.
The day of her party was pretty crazy. I had a lot going on, and I knew I couldn’t spend an entire day on her cake let alone the clean up!So I turned to my quick and easy one bowl chocolate cake recipe. It’s rich, fluffy and oh so good. I paired it with a quick and easy butter frosting, and I was ready to go!
For those of you wondering… I just had a few small bites. New Years resolution is still on despite a few colds trying to slow us down!

Ingredients
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup milk
- 1/3 cup cooking oil
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 egg
- 1 recipe Butter Frosting
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease and flour two 9 inch round baking pans.
- In a large bowl (or your stand up mixer) stir together flour, sugar cocoa powder, soda, baking powder, and salt. Add milk, oil, and vanilla. Beat with a hand mixer (or your stand up mixer) on low speed until combined. Increase to medium speed and beat for 2 minutes longer. Add egg and beat 2 minutes more. Pour half of batter into each prepared pan.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes until a wooden toothpick inserted into the center of cake comes out clean. Cool on a wire rack for 10 minutes in pans. Remove both cakes from pan and cool thoroughly on wire rack.
- Frost between stacked cakes, top and sides. Enjoy!

This cake is definitely a keeper, just made it for my family…I didn’t frost the cake ( I didn’t have the ingredients on hand)
We serve each portion with a scoop of ice cream,took 23 minutes to bake.

ThanksSo cool tip. If you double all the dry ingredients and leave the normal amount for this recipe (milk. Egg. Oil and vanilla) and then bake like normal. You get brownies!
